Friends of Lichfield City

About

The Friends of Lichfield City Station group was formed in the summer of 2023 and it has been wonderful to have the support of other groups of station friends along the Spaghetti Line.

We now have a merry band of 15 adopters (and growing all the time) and we are all dedicated to making the railway station a more attractive and welcoming place.

We want to show off to everyone what Lichfield has to offer – fascinating history, a beautiful cathedral and other beautiful buildings, and its great cafes and restaurants.

And of course, we want to encourage more people to travel by train to help tackle the climate emergency.

We have planted masses of bulbs at the station and added wildlife friendly plants to try and do our bit to improve biodiversity. It has been lovely to see how much this is appreciated by passengers and station staff.

We really want to engage with the local community and have links with groups like the Lichfield Litter Legends and the Lichfield Grow and Swap group who have given us equipment and lots of plants.

The Lichfield Litter Legends and Lichfield Kindness Rocks are working with us to produce a display of painted wheel trims which are gong on the picket fence on one of the platforms – and we’re really excited to see our first arty project up and running.

We have lots of plans for the future which include a mural, displays of local art, history and events, and choirs at Christmas time.

We have a work party once or twice a month when we dig, plant, water and litter pick – and any other jobs that need doing.

We would love you to join us – so do get in touch if you are interested in getting involved. Please email stationfriendslc@gmail.com

Everything but the Diva
Train passengers were delighted to be greeted by the sound of Christmas music and they showed their appreciation by giving incredibly generously to the charity collections for St Giles Hospice, Cancer Research, Lichfield Arts and Crisis. Hundreds of pounds were raised in total.
Kathy Maskell, Chair of the Friends of Lichfield City Station group said:” We want to say a massive thank you to all the bands who performed and to all the passengers who gave so generously.
Our station friends’ group, supported by West Midland Trains, is all about community involvement and making the station more welcoming – and what better way to do this than some Christmas music!
Can I also take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to all the Friends of Lichfield City Station volunteers who work so hard – at Christmas and throughout the year.
Happy Christmas all.”
